Pouches

Good morning!

First thing I noticed this morning was how much lighter it was and was lovely sat outside listening to the birds. Maybe spring is round the corner…

So we had a good day yesterday, the refill pouches are starting to gather some momentum, these are fiddly for filling off but as they grow we will be able to put some to one side and have them prefilled. I still laugh to myself about these, at the start of the year we got some pouches in, came up with the idea of using them for Toffee Vodka Liqueur, put the idea out there and it was very well received, lots of comments about what a great idea etc, so we put them out for sale and guess what happened, nothing…absolutely nothing, didn’t sell a single one. Friends kept asking how are the pouches going, I would simply laugh and say brilliant, how many have you sold? I would laugh even more and say none, not one. It would have been very easy to get despondent at this, but there was no point, for all the lessons we have learnt in business have told us, that nothing ever goes the way you hope it will without lots of hard work etc. Did it mean it was a bad idea, no, did it mean it was a failure? No, not at all. In terms of sales, it certainly wasn’t a success, but it wasn’t a failure, it just meant it was the wrong time. It would of been a failure if we had then taken them off sale and given up.

So its amazing to see them selling now and as the year opens up they will sell more, we will take more of them to shows, have more of them in our shops and they will continue to grow. So thank you to everyone who has ordered one, now when friends ask how the pouches are going, I can tell them we have started selling various ones and they are growing. I still have a little chuckle to myself though.

I then went off to do the talk in the library yesterday afternoon, this was just a talk and not a tasting, it was free of charge for people to attend. I was nervous beforehand, I had no idea what to expect, would anyone turn up etc. This would be anyone's worst nightmare, turning up to do a talk and no one coming to it. I have experienced that before, it's a bloody awful time, which you end up having to laugh at, similar to when asked how many pouches you have sold when you have not sold any.

As it was lots of people turned up for it and they were a lovely bunch, its a very different thing for me just talking, yes I can talk for England, but when you don’t have samples to talk through you are just exposed standing up with lots of faces looking at you. As soon as I got started my nerves eased and we had a great hour chatting. Talking about the history of gin, the current gin world, us at Fenspirits and what we do, then we got onto Vodka, Rum and Whisky. We then chatted about the whole hand sanitiser and lockdown experiences etc. I thanked everyone for coming, it was a great hour or so.

Right, got lots on today, starting with a meeting..

Catch you later

Ant x
